This event was implemented by the local partners of the project – NGO “Atina”. It was a
workshop entitled: “Forms of Gender Based Violence and Women’s Rights”. The specificity of
this workshop was that for the first time, a workshop within the MILAGRO project was moved
outside of Belgrade and was held in the Transit Reception Center in Bujanovac, in the far south
of Serbia, or – if we could say so – on the Balkan route itself. The lecturers were people with
extensive experience in practice and this was what meant the most – according to oral statements
- to the workshop participants themselves. In the first part of the workshop, the participants –
consisting of migrant representatives and volunteers from the organization “Atina” – were were
educated about different forms of violence against women and experiences from the work of the
“Atina” organization itself, and then a workshop was conducted in which all those present
participated. This met with a very fruitful reaction from everyone, and some of the very
interesting insights, especially by women from Afghanistan. Of course, experiences from the
practice of the NGO “Atina” was shared and certain answers were suggested to specific
questions of the participants at the end of the workshop.
NOTE: Since a certain number of women registered that they did not allow their faces to be
shared in the photos (although they had nothing against the photo itself), we were forced to blur
the faces of all workshop participants in order to comply with this request. This request is also
common when it comes to women from Afghanistan. The workshop was also attended by
volunteers from the NGO “Atina” in certain segments.
