This event was implemented by the Red Cross of Serbia, a local partner in the project. It was a
workshop called: „First Aid and self-help“. The lecturers were the volunteers from the Red Cross
of Serbia, who have a lot of experience working on this topic. The workshop was conducted in
the premises of the Red Cross of the Palilula Municipality. The workshop was also assisted by
local partners of the NGO Atina, who brought migrants from the “Krnjača” migrant reception
center. At one point, the Project Manager, Red Cross leaders and educators from the NGO Atina
also joined the workshop.
At the beginning of the workshop, Red Cross volunteers, together with the participants, reviewed
instances when someone required first aid and discussed how those situations were managed. In
the second part of the workshop, Red Cross volunteers demonstrated to everyone present how to
properly provide assistance in various situations. The demonstration included: bleeding, injuries
of the bone-joint system, a sudden onset of diseases and conditions, and burns. Also, at the
insistence of the participants, they were shown how to react to a snake bite, an allergic reaction,
or an epileptic seizure. At the end, the participants were able to perform basic First Aid
procedures themselves, under the supervision of the experts and volunteers present, working in
pairs.
After the workshop, which lasted almost 2 hours, there were snacks for all participants and a
joint photo session. A relaxed and cordial atmosphere prevailed throughout the workshop. All
migrants from this workshop showed full interest and emphasized how much these workshops
meant to them. Also, they stated that this was one of the most useful workshops they had
attended.
Note: two workshop participants agreed to be photographed on the condition that their
faces and the faces of their children be blurred.
