The MILAGRO project team from Siena recently presented its work during a high-level workshop held on January 29 and 30 in Palermo, at the beautiful Palazzo Butera. MILAGRO provided a concrete example of how new identities can be built in the Mediterranean through intercultural bridges between communities.
The workshop, titled “The New Global Geoeconomy: Identities and Dynamics of the Mediterranean,” was promoted by Villa Vigoni, the Italian-German Centre for the European Dialogue. The event offered a vital platform to strengthen relationships and foster the exchange of new perspectives on the crucial role of the Mediterranean.
The MILAGRO team at the event included Elena Cellai, Project Manager of Nuova Associazione Ulisse, Lavinia Bracci, Representative of SIS Intercultural Study Abroad, and Murad Khan, the project’s intercultural mediator.
Elena Cellai and Lavinia Bracci contributed with two presentations that detailed practical steps toward inclusive societies:
• The presentation of Elena Cellai was titled: “Values, Techniques, Tools, and Practical Experiences for Intercultural Encounter and Dialogue between Local and Migrant Communities”.
• The presentation of Lavinia Bracci was titled: “From Spontaneous Volunteering to Active Inclusion: the evolution of the Pakistani Group from “Home 4 the World” to the MILAGRO project”.
Both presentations were very well received by the attendees. Their contributions were rooted in direct fieldwork and engagement with communities, demonstrating how the MILAGRO EU Project is actively working to construct more inclusive, participatory, and supportive societies within the Mediterranean and European context.
Approximately 40 people participated in the event. This was a valuable opportunity for the MILAGRO team to establish many new contacts, including several speakers for the event scheduled in Siena on May 27, which will officially launch the MILAGRO Project’s Observatory of Inclusive Communities.
