Siena, December 5 and January 15

At NACU, we recently hosted two insightful sessions aimed at fostering cultural understanding and digital awareness among migrants and the local community. The first session, led by a NACU member, delved into Siena’s Contrade and community relations. Many migrants had experienced the Palio celebrations but were unaware of their deep historical significance and the strong community bonds they represent. By gaining a deeper understanding of Siena’s traditions, migrants can better integrate into local society. Furthermore, local participants had the opportunity to share and celebrate their heritage with newcomers. The second meeting focused on Online Risks, a topic of increasing relevance in today’s digital world. The lecture, delivered in English with slides in both English and Italian, covered critical issues such as fake news, privacy, identity theft, and safe online practices. To ensure accessibility for all participants, a Pakistani volunteer provided translation into Pashto, while a Francophone volunteer translated them into French. The high level of engagement was evident in the thoughtful questions and discussions that followed. Both sessions were led by Andrea Mari, an Italian teacher at NACU and an active contributor to the Home4TheWorld project, where he supports refugee students on their path to integration.
